Sahuagin re-design

Created as part of my ongoing person project to surprise my Dungeons and Dragons players with re-skinned versions of classical monsters. Here we have the Sahuagin from the The Final Enemy created by Wizards of the Coast.

I focused on maintaining all of the mechanical attributes of Sahuagin while giving them a new spin. Deep sea creatures I based them on the horror monster, the Hag Fish. This also altered the way I interpreted thier religion, with the classical shark god, instead coming a great Maw of hunger, closer to the one worshipped by Warhmmers Ogres. A deep sea with a walking speed, but who can only stay on land for four hours? This led me to drawing on the lovly legs of the Bat Fish, creatures that walk on the bottom in order to stalk thier prey.

I also wanted to give them a more interesting siloet and give me a way to more easily differentiate leaders from subordinates. To this end I also drew on deep sea worms, which could grow from thier backs and act as gills. This way I can have a regular priest without gills show, and a high priest with them to save on drawing time.

Lastly, armour. To avoid the classical shell armour for undersea creatures I drew on the Sahuagin law where they can grow barrons with extra arms and have children that look like sea elves. So why not make them masters of flesh shaping magic? Any creatures with armour can now have thick plates of Rhino like skin to protect them from harm.

I have also started adding token rings around characters Due to me drawing creatures as actual size, some player strugle to spot enemies while zoomed out on some platforms. Especially when I am not using my own maps.

Created a base template with a top and bottom which I can re pose for the different units. The Blade master has a shield in the books, but I felt this looked out of place with no one else having one. I just thickened its armour a bit.

The D&D 'Shell Sharks' did not fit with my idea for these creatures, so I made them into another breed of the same creature. Combining eels and ancient armoured fish/
