Having studied illustration for three years at Falmouth University I have worked to professional style briefs with strict deadlines and a focus on both the best practice and communication. The course's mantra was visual problem solving and this is something I excel at. This skill was key while I worked on my MA in Digital Games: Design and Theory at Brunel which had an emphasis on creating innovation in games. It was necessary to produce Ludic Sketches in very short time frames, both alone and as part of a team, requiring art which is both quick to produce and highly communicative.
I aim to deal with new situations confidently and effectively: while creating solutions to problems I am highly imaginative and rational which leads me to come to conclusions others might have otherwise overlooked. I operate best when supported by a team of talented and passionate individuals working towards a shared objective, even if that team simply consists of an art director over the phone.
DERP Studios was started as a collaborative company entirely staffed by students from multiple disciplines. By working for the company during our time as students, often as part of the work itself, the DERP team are able to gain the experience of working on a live games project in a far larger team than most Indie companies are able to field.
The members of the DERP Team were based around the county using social media to communicate during the day and meeting twice a week over video chat to discuss the project as the whole. Once per month we met at Pitvil to work closer together.
The Jej project involved designing a top down tablet game with a steampunk aesthetic, the player controls a Mech while battling Mechanical 'Butlers' and the new threat of the alien looking Jej. The Creation of these Jej was my responsibility.
The project was completed by the newly formed Ludic Gulls who were selected among seventeen other teams from across the UK. Whodunit Padma was designed and developed for the Tranzfuser game competition with the UK games fund within three months before being showcased at the UK's largest gaming event, EGX 2016.
