Mudskin, Height Chart

A personal project creating a Dungeons and Dragons setting based on the Malazan Book of the Fallen world created by Steven Erikson and Ian C. Esslemont. The Mudskins as they are called by thier slave owners are a little talked about species in the Malazan world of Wu leaving me free to expand on them a lot. Mudskins are called as such due to thier patchy skin (they retain thier own name for themselves) and I wanted to glory in the vitiligo patterns that many humans have while being respectful as well.

This also created the challenge that once I had painted this beautiful skin I was loath to hide it all away. To balance this out I made extensive use of the 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Facebook using thier feedback (listening closely to the woman who responded) to create a design that tastefully showed off a reasonable amount of skin. So thank you everyone there for the over 50 designs you helped me come up with and your helpful feedback.

Special thanks go to Grafit Studio for thier awesome refference image that this is based on: https://www.artstation.com/a/6343779
and to ASH SOTO (@radiantbambi) who's skin art using her own Vitiligo inspired the final skin pattern for the character.

Combining inspiration of the Speks' from the Soldier Son Trilogy (Robin Hobb) I tried out a more animalistic speckled pattern. On its own it wasn't striking enough but combined well with the vitiligo.

With thanks to Dylan Ekren who's Egyptian wizard was the initial inspiration for this project and ASH SOTO @radiantbambi (middle right) who's skin pattern contributed to the final design.

Part 3, some designs go more for fashion others for practicality, practicality will likely win, but it helps to try new things out.

Part 4, I was pleased that many woman liked the open leg dress from the original designs, so much that three separate woman created the 37 design.

There were lots of vote for the sports bra style, so I tried to research into differing styles.

The 'best of' selection. I filtered down to those I liked the most (removing the least practical) & popular with the community.

The Winners from stage 3! My personal favourite is the Left image, but following feedback I have accepted it looks to wealthy for the slums of the Mudskins.

Some slight variations on the last design. Removing or adding based on which parts people had commented on liking before.
