Map of Saltoan - Malazan Personal Project

The city of Saltoan from The Malazan Books of the Fallen is featured for such a short period of time that it did not warrant a map in the books. I expected my D&D players however to be there for a little while, and what started out as a rough map turned into a full scale project.

Like the other parts of this Malazan project, I have done my best to stick as closely as possible to the books. This lead of a lot of challenges; the canal which runs under the bridge at Sunset gate, with two artificial lakes in the old river, and two not; the narrow "Twitface Passage" that is deeply dangerous, yet still people take it as the main rout to the centre of the city. I've included all of the named places from the books, in addition to some I have added for my D&D games, fans have helped me name many of the streets and my hope is that my players will help me name the rest.

"Twistface Passage was a narrow alley surrounded by tenements along the trade route through the city of Saltoan. Countless deep scars had been gouged into the walls by trader wagons squeezing through the choke-point." Malazan WIki

The thriving and dirty shanty of Waytown doesn't have many streets, simply a multitude of small gaps between shacks for the nimble to slip between. Very easy to get lost.

Originally a thriving trade rout I had to plan the city as if it had grown like a real city, with the palace placed on the high hill, and homes expanding from the old river bed. Ladies meet is were the paths to the three major temples converge.
